Dreaming in Spite of Reason

“Short to the Point” International Film Festival in Bucharest, Romania.
“AltFF” Alternative Film Festival finalist in Toronto, Canada

The title of this short animated piece is the only element that calls to the full story. The act of creating this was a private performance for myself, a way to argue with my own thoughts and create something in an unreasonable way. I intentionally over complicated every single step of the creation process in order to cause internal frustration, break my own methodologies, and ignore my inner monologue.

Leading up to the start of this project, I was increasingly concerned that I was placing too much emphasis on ideation and purpose. I felt myself fleeting with boredom and could see the outlines of a box fitting squarely over all potential projects. I began imagining a way to contradict my own ideas, interrupt habits, and let go of pre-production. While the resulting animation is not overly compelling on its own, it was successful in altering my approach to creating. Despite the frustrations, this was an extremely freeing experience.
